Perhaps you know us as the "forever garden partners," perhaps you know us as Crys and Los... or perhaps you don't know us at all. We are Carlos and Crystal León and we are the gnomes behind "The Radish Hotel". Crystal has a background in nutrition and garden education. Carlos has a background in cooking and restaurateuring. We have both officially been gardening for over half our lives. Together and separately we've managed urban gardening projects, farm stands, community food collaborations, and have been on discussion panels across the country to advocate for food justice/address problems of food insecurity in low income communities. Last year, we decided to take all of that passion and venture out on our own, giving you - The Radish Hotel.
Why "The Radish Hotel" ?
The radish - a root vegetable (and one of our favorites here at the homestead), has become a symbol for us over the years. One that symbolizes richness, the decision to establish roots together and dedication to the process (if you're a farmer or gardener you know just how much -dedication to the process- is required to reap the benefits in any growing situation). Much the same, for you and I.
Here at The Radish Hotel, people, plants and animal life grow. The collective are nourished to flourish and so much looms beneath the surface, contributing to the wonderment that we get to see before our very eyes. We are:
Four people, 12 chickens, one dog, two cats, and about 50,000 bees (más o menos).
